For truely daring, there are several ultimate whitewater rafting destinations sure to create once in a lifetime memories for rafting aficionados. With a wide range of dificulties from a gentle 01- day float down the Trishuli river, Seti river, to an exhilarating 20- day adventure through the rapids of the remote Tamur, Arun and Karnali, there is an experience for every one waiting in Nepal's famous white waters. Nepal's rivers change with the seasons. Each year, after the heavy monsoon rains the waters swell, changing the run of the rivers and the nature of the rapids. New rapids are created, others become more difficult and some simply impossible to navigate. It is imporatant to remember that some of the white water action you are about to read about could have changed by the time you actually come to run the river.

For rafting, October through mid-December and march through early May are the best times. In this time rafters can enjoy great mountain views, clear sky and rewarding natural scenerary. In winter it is possible but they have to watch out for hypothermia. During this time rafters should certainly expect cold water and perhaps think in terms of wet suits and dry tops. Monsoon time is dangerous which brings heavy rains that flood the rivers most so people wouldn't want to be or rafting at that time.

The most popular rivers to go rafting in Nepal are:

Itineray II

Bhote Koshi River roughly translates as “river from Tibet" so there are quite a lot of rivers with this name in Nepal. This Bhote Koshi is the main branch of the Sun Koshi. The river is followed by the Araniko highway so access and scouting are relatively easy. The upper valley above Bahrabise is impressively narrow with steep hill sides shooting up over 2000m from the river. And there are some dramatic and scenic gorges down at river level. Just to drive up the highway and look at the river is like reading an erotic novel – it quickens the blood and excited the mind.

Technically, the upper Bhote Koshi ends just after Barbisae where the Sun Koshi joins as a stream from the left: The lower Bhote Koshi rafting start right from the Lamasangu.

It's a great beginner river for rafters and fun for kayakers at all levels. If you have never rafted before and if you have limited time but desire an adrenaline overload, then this is a perfect trip package for you because Bhote Kosi is probably the most exciting short rafting trip in Nepal.

This river travels through Magar villages where the famous Gurkha soldies hail. The Seti Khola is a relaxing river with a lot of high action rapids. It offers great chances for swimming and wildlife spotting making it highly suitable for families and first timers. It is one of the most beautiful and pristine rivers in Nepal. You will get fun and enjoy very much on this river while rafting. You can raft this in combination with a trip to Chitwan or Pokhara.

Rafting in Seti River, You can have a fairly short trip in the Seti River and offers beautiful mountain views and also unique river passing through two beautiful and contrasting scenic areas of Manaslu and Annapurna regions. This River has relatively small volume but blue and warm water and we recommend this as an ideal short trip for first time rafters or as "Warm-up" for intermediate kayakers. Seti is Best River for learning kayak in Nepal as she has very best character for this. The water temperature is incredibly warm, making it a popular choice for winter trips and also for kayak clinics for the course of beginners, diploma and advanced as well. After your exhilarating white water trip you have options either to drive or fly back to Kathmandu or to visit the Royal Chitwan National Park or again you can go for the trekking trip in the popular area of Annapurna region for few days.

Most of the year, the Seti is famous for its dazzling scenery is a gentle river, attracting families, bird watchers, nature lovers and dreamers. However, during the monsoon, its swollen rapids prove an exciting test for experienced rafters and kayakers.

The luxuriant vegetation visible along the river is a remnant of the vast forested area, which once covered the middle hills of Nepal. This area is inhabited by Magar who are renowned for generations of service with the Gurkha forces. Saranghat is a colorful middle hill village where you will have first night's camp on a spacious beach below the village.

2. Paragliding in Nepal

Paragliding in NepalLike Bungee Jumping and Hot-Air Ballooning, Paragliding too is new to Nepal. Nevertheless, Para-Gliding was an instant hit among the tourists the year it was first launched. Paragliding in Nepal can be a truly wonderful and fulfilling experience for the adventure seeker. Since the 'Fall of Icarius', the men have always wanted to have their own wings. And as God is yet to be that generous, paragliding tries to fulfill that dream to some extent. And that is why; it is such a craze in Nepal. After all, who doesn't want to share his airspace with Griffin Vultures and Kites while smoothly gliding over villages, lakes and jungle with the dazzling and intimidating Himalayan peaks in the background?

Paragliding is a relatively new adventure sport in Nepal that is why you will not find much information in guidebooks. Even the famous 'Lonely Planet Series' will let you down. Your best betis the tourist help cell at the Tribhuwan Airport. The concerned officers will make all the related information available.

As you know, Gliding is a weather dependent sport that is why various aspects like fog, drizzle and wind is kept in mind before the flight. Like other sports such as Bungee and Hot-Air Ballooning, the flying season in Nepal commences from November and ends around February. The best months though, are November and December. The takes off point for the majority of these paragliding flights is Sarankot that is at the height of 6000 feet. The flight will give you a panoramic view of sunrise and sunset in Himalayas depending upon the weather conditions. The descent is near the magnificent Fewa Lake. The icing on the cake is the fact that absolutely no previous experience is required to experience these flights. Of course, there are qualified paragliding trainers who provide a short briefing before launching.
