Hot Destination
TansenTansen, the district headquarters of Palpa district, is another famous destination in Western Nepal. Situated at the altitude of 1343 meters above the sea level, Tansen is a small town with a dominent population of Newars. Visitors to Tansen can watch scenic view of Tinau river valley surrounded by Churia and Mahabharat hills. Located on the south flank of Shreenagar hill, Tansen Bazar is a fascinating place with ancient culture, friendly people and excellent mountain views. Shreenagar hill offers magnificent view of sunrise and other mountain peaks. Tansen is between Pokhara (5 hr, 110km) and Sunauli/Bhairawa (2 hr, 55 km), just off the Siddhartha Highway, and is a pleasant place to stop on the way between the two places. It is a typical Nepali town with numerous fairs festivals, religious and cultural events. Non-polluted Tansen is one of the beautiful hill stations of Nepal. The best thing about Tansen is getting out of it and exploring the outlying hill country and unaffected Magar Villages. Shreenagar hill(1525) is the best location for view of snowcapped mountains and surrounding villages. Tansen bazzar, Ridi, Ranighat, Madanpokhara etc. are the points of attractions.
Most of the people in Tansen are Newars who mainly migrated in the 19th century when trade opportunities opened up here. Most of the people in the surrounding area are Magars and there are also Chhetris and Bahuns. |
